Nonsurgical Resolution of a Bucket Handle Meniscal Tear: A Case Report.
نویسندگان
چکیده
A bucket handle meniscal tear (BHMT) often causes intermittent locking of the affected knee as the displaced fragment flips into the intercondylar notch. Surgical correction is usually required. Rare spontaneous healing of BHMTs has been described, primarily in young patients. This case report describes a 43-year-old man with magnetic resonance imaging-confirmed medial BHMT who received 3 treatments of platelet-rich plasma injections in and around the meniscus within 7 months after the diagnosis of the tear. The patient reported resolution of pain with walking 8 months after the injury. Magnetic resonance imaging 10 months after the injury and arthroscopy 47 months after the injury showed complete resolution of the meniscal tear. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE V.

Free Medial Meniscal Fragment Which Mimics the Dislocated Bucket-Handle Tear on MRI
The bucket-handle meniscal tear is a specific type of meniscal injuries which has specific signs on MRI. An attached fragment displaced away from the meniscus with any type of tear causes bucket-handle tear of the meniscus. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the most commonly used diagnostic tool for meniscal injuries. We present a case of free medial meniscal fragment which mimics the disloca...
متن کاملSelf-Reduction of Displaced Bucket-Handle Medial Meniscal Tear in a 71-Year-Old Patient
BACKGROUND Bucket-handle meniscal tears are rare in geriatric patients. Displaced bucket-handle meniscal tears are usually treated operatively. Due to the rarity of these tears in elderly patients and conflicting evidence regarding the use of arthroscopy versus conservative treatment, it is valuable to report the clinical presentation, treatment, and outcome of these injuries in elderly patient...
متن کاملSpontaneous Healing of a Displaced Bucket-Handle Tear of the Lateral Meniscus in a Child
Bucket-handle tears less frequently occur in the lateral meniscus than in the medial meniscus. An 11-year-old male patient complained of painful swelling and locking due to a displaced bucket-handle tear of the lateral meniscus. We recommended an arthroscopic surgery; however, the patient left the hospital without surgical treatment. Six weeks afterwards, he returned without any complain of pai...
متن کاملBilateral, Simultaneous Medial Meniscus Bucket Handle Tears in a 23-Year-Old Female
Traumatic tears of the meniscus are well reported in the literature. Rarely, bilateral meniscal tears occur. A PubMed search found that only three cases of bilateral medial meniscus bucket handle type tears have been reported. Treatment options range from partial meniscectomy to repair of the meniscal tear. Repair is reported to be more successful in the vascular red-red or red-white zones. We ...
متن کاملThree-dimensional reconstructed magnetic resonance scans: Accuracy in identifying and defining knee meniscal tears
AIM To determine whether three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction from conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is able to accurately detect a meniscal tear, and define the configuration. METHODS Thirty-three patients' 3T MRI scan data were collected and sagittal uni-planar 3D reconstructions performed from the preoperative MRI. There were 24 meniscal tears in 24 patients, and nine controls...
